Gender-Affirming Expressions is a series of paintings representing trans people, including myself, in their most gender-affirming form. Gender is a constructed reality that has been practiced since the dawn of humanity, but Eurocentric ideals along with histories of colonialism have often reduced gender to a binary assertion with some cultures not able to see or understand gender diversity within their own populations. I am interested in making these paintings of my friends and the people connected me as part of a concerted effort to reveal and celebrate the diversity of gender in all of its forms.
