A Manifesto for Art History Pedagogy
You can’t know if something is significant if you don’t even know what you’re missing. The same way you can’t truly understand history if you know just the facts.
Art is cultural, poetic, creative, and critical. Art provides a fundamental insight into culture, emotions, and different perspectives within the context of historical events.
We need to educate ourselves on the rich material culture and artistic history of the world. How else can we understand the diverse world around us.
Art History should be integrated into grade schools to teach children about the deep cultural history that can be seen only through art and the visual world. Art history teaches critical looking, analytical, reading, and writing skills. Art history teaches empathy.
Everyone deserves access to knowledge, it’s up to us to make it happen.
