For my Capstone, I researched the environmentally friendly uses of mushrooms as packaging to replace non-biodegradable materials like foam and plastic. In addition to being used as a packaging material, mushrooms can be used in a variety of different ways to mitigate damage to the earth. Each of my packaging designs features a different sustainable way of using mushrooms, including as building materials, cleaning nature, and making textiles. I created packaging for mushroom crisps with illustrations that feature anthropomorphized mushrooms carrying out tasks that align with their uses, like building, picking up litter, and creating clothes. My goal was to prompt the viewer to think about different ways of sustainability by depicting the importance of mushrooms as both a food source and as an essential figure in helping the environment.
