I want my artwork to generate conversations about social issues. I want to talk about things we are encouraged to ignore. By placing strategic sentences in specific contexts to identify unspoken truths and using certain fonts and color theory, I emphasize these ideas and create suggestions. In my work that focuses on issues of race, I use my own identity as an Asian American living in America. I use comments that I have overheard or have directed against me. These phrases point to issues that many other Asian Americans face – fetishization, microaggressions, stereotypes, and misconceptions.
